About Lucknow Zoo

Situated at the core of Lucknow, Nawab Wajid Ali Shah Prani Udyan or Lucknow Zoo is the most preferred destination for natural lovers from all over the city. This is a huge zoo which is spread over the area of 71.6 acres and was built in 1921 to tribute the Prince of Royal Highness known as Prince of Wales. later its name was changed from Prince of Wales Zoo to Lucknow Zoo. A part of breathtaking animals and birds, for example, Royal Bengal Tiger, White Tiger, Lion, Wolf, Great Pied Hornbill, Golden Pheasant and Silver Pheasant can be seen here in their usual natural surroundings.

History of Lucknow Zoo

The named, Prince of Wales Zoo was built in the year 1921 for the luxury visit of the Prince of Wales, his Royal Highness. Overseasing panel was broken in the year 1950 and an advisory committee was nominated as Secretary, U.P., Secretary of Public Health Department and its Director and External Administrator, Director of Medical and Health Services, Uttar Pradesh. In the year 1966, the re-inspection expert was changed when the forest department had been exchanged control and today it is still manipulated all the time. The name of the zoo was changed from " Prince of Wales Zoological Gardens, Lucknow" to “Lucknow Zoo” on June 4, 2001.
