A group of travelers from Maharashtra known as the Yatri group fell victim to cyber criminals who deceived them in the guise of offering helicopter trips to Kedarnath Darshan. After a passenger lodged a complaint, the local Nagar Kotwali police took action and registered a case against the unknown culprits under multiple sections, including cheating. The police have initiated an investigation into the incident to bring the perpetrators to justice.

Hemant, a resident of Kamleshwar Gapur in Nagpur Mohapa Tehsil, Maharashtra, approached the police with a complaint stating that he had used Google to search for helicopter services for Kedarnath Darshan. He contacted a mobile number listed on a website he found and spoke to a person who informed him about the fare of Rs 5500 for Pawan Hans Limited Heli Service per passenger. Trusting the information provided, Hemant and 47 other passengers transferred a total of Rs 2,45,500 online to Gayatri Telecall.

The fraudster who Hemant contacted informed him that he would receive helicopter service from Phata on June 2. However, during the journey, Hemant received a call from someone demanding a payment of Rs 46,530 as 18% GST. The caller threatened to cancel his ticket if he failed to make the payment. In fear of losing his ticket, Hemant deposited the money online into the provided bank account. Upon reaching the helipad in Phata, he discovered that he had fallen victim to a scam. The senior sub-inspector of the city police station, Mukesh Thaledi, confirmed that a case has been registered against the unknown perpetrator under various sections, including cheating.
