Hemkund Sahib yatra stalled due to rain from mountains to plains

The change in weather from the high-altitude regions to the plains brought relief from the scorching heat for the people. However, the heavy rainfall posed challenges for the Chardham pilgrims. The pilgrimage to Hemkund Sahib has been halted at Ghangharia due to the occurrence of snowfall and rain in Chamoli, making it difficult for the pilgrims to continue their journey.

According to Sardar Seva Singh, the senior manager of Govindghat Gurdwara, Hemkund Sahib has been experiencing continuous rainfall since last night. As a result, approximately 1,130 passengers have been halted at Ghangharia. On the other hand, the pilgrimage to Badrinath Dham is progressing smoothly, and the pilgrims were able to have the Darshan of Lord Badrivishal amidst the rain on Thursday morning.

Simultaneously, unfavorable weather conditions prevail in Kedarnath and Yamunotri Dham. Rainfall persists in the morning, accompanied by snowfall in the Himalayan region. In Mussoorie city, heavy rain and strong winds caused a tree to fall, leading to the temporary blockage of Mall Road. Promptly responding to the incident, the fire rescue team arrived at the scene and successfully cleared the road by removing the fallen tree.

As per the Meteorological Department’s forecast, heavy rain accompanied by strong gusty winds was expected in the higher regions of Uttarakhand on Thursday. An orange rain alert has been issued for May 25, indicating potentially intense rainfall. Additionally, a yellow alert has been issued for May 26, indicating a lower level of alert but still significant rainfall. The districts of Nainital, Pauri, Udham Singh Nagar, and Haridwar have been specifically mentioned in the yellow alert, where moderate to heavy rainfall is expected along with gusty winds blowing at speeds of 40 to 50 Kmph.
