Expansion

The government has made it a requirement for all vehicles to have green cards for the Chardham Yatra. The process of issuing these green cards started on Monday in Rishikesh, where Transport Minister Chandan Ramdas issued the first batch of green cards to 10 transporters at the ARTO office. According to the minister, 350 buses will be kept in reserve this year for the Yatra, and school buses will not be utilized for this purpose.

According to Transport Minister Chandan Ramdas, passengers undertaking the Chardham Yatra will not face any issues this year as their safety and convenience will be given top priority. To ensure that there is no shortage of buses during the peak season, the Transport Department has reserved 350 buses. In an effort to avoid using school buses for the Yatra, talks are underway with transporters from other states to provide additional buses. The minister emphasized that all necessary measures will be taken to ensure the smooth running of the Yatra, and passengers can expect a safe and hassle-free journey.

More than 46 lakh pilgrims expected

The Transport Minister also stated that the number of pilgrims expected to visit this year’s Chardham Yatra will exceed the 46 lakhs who visited last time. However, the shortcomings experienced in the previous year are being addressed and rectified. Special arrangements have been made to ensure that bus drivers and operators have access to food and rest during the journey. Steps have also been taken to prevent traffic jams and ensure a smooth ride for passengers. The roadways department has arranged for 200 CNG buses and 60 electric buses to arrive before the Yatra begins, providing additional transportation options for pilgrims. Overall, the government is taking proactive measures to ensure that the Yatra is a success and that pilgrims have a comfortable and enjoyable experience.

The first Green Card was issued to Megh Singh Chauhan, the owner of Chauhan Tourist Taxi Service Byasi. The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Mayor Anita Mamgain, Rotation President Sanjay Shastri, Rotation Executive President Manoj Dhyani, and Garhwal Mandal Multipurpose Committee office bearers Vinod Prasad Bhatt, Yogesh Uniyal, and Bhopal Singh Negi, as well as RTO Sunil Sharma, Dwarika Prasad, Arvind Pandey, Mohit Kothari, Pradeep Rauthan, and Vikas Singh. The issuance of the first Green Card was a significant moment, marking the start of the process for all vehicles participating in the Chardham Yatra to obtain the mandatory permit.

To obtain a Green Card, the vehicle must be taken to the RTO office, where all relevant documents, including the RC, fitness certificate, insurance certificate, pollution control certificate, permit, vehicle tax deposit certificate, and driver’s license, are thoroughly checked. The vehicle is then tested to ensure that it is suitable for travel on mountainous routes. Technical tests are conducted to check the vehicle’s lights, dipper, wiper, brakes, steering, tires, and other crucial components. Additionally, it is mandatory for the vehicle to carry a first aid kit, wooden or iron block, and fire extinguisher. These checks are necessary to ensure the safety and well-being of passengers during the Chardham Yatra.
