After the weather clears, the enthusiasm shown by the pilgrims for Hemkund Sahib, the devotees will have to go through the snow
The pilgrimage to Hemkund Sahib is currently witnessing a surge in participants as the weather conditions have improved, allowing for safe travel. On a recent Sunday, approximately 1700 pilgrims successfully made their way to Hemkund Sahib. The journey involves a three-kilometer stretch from Atlakudi Glacier to Hemkund Sahib, where the pilgrim’s support and guide one another by holding hands while walking through the snowy terrain.
Tourists are embarking on an exhilarating journey through the snow-covered trails of the Valley of Flowers. The pilgrimage to Hemkund Sahib has sparked great enthusiasm among travelers. After enduring two days of unfavorable weather conditions, the opening of clear skies on Sunday led to a rapid increase in the number of people undertaking the pilgrimage to Hemkund Sahib.
Pilgrims are making their way from Atlakoti to Hemkund Sahib, gazing at the snow-covered road ahead. This year, Hemkund Sahib is experiencing direct snowfall immediately after a period of adverse weather. As a result, the Himsarovar in Hemkund Sahib remains enveloped in a blanket of snow, creating a picturesque and serene atmosphere for the pilgrims.
According to Sardar Sewa Singh, the Senior Manager of Govindghat Gurdwara, the pilgrims of Hemkund Sahib are now beginning their journey as early as 5 am as soon as the weather conditions stabilize. He mentioned that the number of pilgrims is expected to rise significantly once the weather returns to normal.
Despite the hopes of stable weather, the Meteorological Department has once again raised concerns by indicating the possibility of rain and hailstorms in high-altitude areas. Additionally, there might be rain and thundershowers expected at a few places in the plains. To caution against these conditions, the Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for rain today. This alert serves as a reminder for the pilgrims and visitors to remain prepared and exercise caution while traveling to and from the region.

As per the recent forecast from the Meteorological Department, regions such as Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Bageshwar, Almora, and Pithoragarh might experience light to moderate rainfall. Additionally, these areas could also witness strong thunder accompanied by gusty winds with speeds reaching up to 70 km per hour. This weather advisory emphasizes the likelihood of unstable weather conditions in these regions, urging individuals to remain cautious and prepared for potential weather-related impacts.
