On Saturday, in accordance with religious customs, the doors of Rudranath temple, the fourth Kedar situated in the Himalayas, were opened during the auspicious Brahmamuhurt. Around 500 devotees gathered to witness this sacred event. For the next six months, devotees will have the opportunity to behold the divine face of Lord Shiva. The Rudranath temple is adorned with vibrant marigold flowers, adding to its spiritual ambiance.

Situated at an impressive altitude of 11,808 meters above sea level, the Rudranath Temple witnessed a significant event in the morning. Led by priest Janardan Prasad Tiwari, devotees immersed themselves in the sacred waters of Narad Kund and carried the water for the Jalabhishek (ritualistic pouring of water) ceremony for Lord Rudranath. At 6:10 am, accompanied by Vedic chants, the priest opened the temple doors, marking a momentous occasion. Following the consecration of Lord Bholenath, the Bugyali (ritual space) was adorned with colorful flowers, adding to the divine atmosphere.

After the ceremonial opening, devotees flocked to the Rudranath Temple to offer their prayers. This sacred pilgrimage site holds a special significance as it is believed that Lord Shiva’s face can be seen here, making it the only fourth Kedar in India with this divine manifestation. According to ancient scriptures, Lord Shiva bestowed the Pandavas with his divine darshan during their ascent to Rudranath. The journey to Rudranath is renowned for its challenging accessibility. The trek to Rudranath begins with a 19 km route from Sagar village, starting from the Mandal-Chopta highway in Gopeshwar. Along the way, trekkers are greeted by picturesque Bugyals.

Located within the Kedarnath Wildlife Division area, the Rudranath pilgrimage offers a unique opportunity to witness rare wildlife species such as the oyster dead, snow leopard, and bears in their natural habitats. To facilitate the religious journey, horses and mules are available for hire from Sagar village. Currently, the pilgrimage route beyond Pitridhar is covered in frozen snow. However, the temple premises in Rudranath Dham itself remain free from snow. Lord Rudranath is situated within a cave, which has been transformed into a temple. The opening ceremony was attended by esteemed individuals such as Seni Col DS Bartwal, President of Sankalp Abhiyan Manoj Bisht, Patron Manoj Tiwari, and Sandeep Rawat, among others. As part of the occasion, a Bhandara (community feast) was organized for the devotees near the temple.
