About Winter Chardham Yatra

Winter Chardham Yatra is a journey to 4 major temples located in Uttarakhand, India which is undertaken by Hindus. These 4 pilgrimage sites are also known as Chota Chardham. When these four sacred places are covered with snow the journey becomes too difficult and the temples cannot be reached due to weather conditions then this journey is organised. From these temples, the idols are brought down to the city where devotees can worship them. This winter yatra provides an opportunity for the devotees to have darshan and worship despite the difficult weather. The Chardham Yatra undertaken by devotees this winter has been called the Winter Chardham Yatra. In which the worshiped idols are removed from Chardham and installed in the towns below where devotees can have darshan of them even in winter.

1. Yamunotri Dham – Darshan in Kharshali:

Yamunotri Dham is dedicated to Goddess Yamuna. This temple is situated in the Garhwal Himalayas at an altitude of 3,293 meters. The idol of Yamuna Devi from Yamunotri Temple is installed in Kharsali below in winter.

2. Gangotri Dham – Darshan in Mukhba Village:

Gangotri Dham is a temple dedicated to Mother Ganga. Along with this, it is also the source of the Ganga River. In winter, the idol of Mother Ganga is brought down to the Mukhba Village.

3. Kedarnath Dham – Darshan in Ukhimath:

Kedarnath Dham is a temple situated at an altitude of 3,583 meters which is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Also, Kedarnath is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas. And in winter, the idol of Lord Shiva from Kedarnath is installed in Ukhimath.

4. Badrinath Dham – Darshan in Joshimath:

Badrinath Dham is dedicated to Lord Vishnu, and this temple is situated at an altitude of 3,133 meters. Badrinath Dham is the fourth Dham among the four Dhams. Below, the idol of Lord Vishnu of Badrinath Dham has been installed in the Narasimha temple located in Joshimath.
