In the news regarding the 2023 Chardham Yatra in Kedarnath, it has been reported that there is a potential danger of falling stones from the hills along the route from Gaurikund to Chhauri, Cheerbasa, Jangalchatti, Bhimbali, Lincholi, and Chani camp, especially during the rainy season. Additionally, the area from Rambara to Chhani Camp is considered an avalanche zone, making it highly sensitive. Travelers are advised to be cautious and take necessary precautions while journeying through these areas.

Expansion

To ensure a smooth and safe Kedarnath Yatra during the rainy season, a public address system will be established from Sonprayag to Kedarnath. This system will help inform passengers about the route and important updates through loudspeakers at various stops along the pedestrian route. In an effort to prioritize safety, the number of daily passengers going to the Dham during the rainy season will be limited to approximately five to six thousand. These measures aim to enhance the overall experience and security of pilgrims embarking on the Kedarnath Yatra.

The stretch from Gaurikund to Chhauri, Cheerbasa, Jangalchatti, Bhimbali, Lincholi, and Chani camp poses a risk of falling stones from the hills during the rainy season. Additionally, the area from Rambara to Chhani Camp is an avalanche zone, making it highly sensitive. To ensure the safety of passengers, the administration has devised an action plan to address these challenges and minimize any potential issues during the rainy season. The plan aims to safeguard the well-being of travelers and ensure a smooth and secure journey along this route.

In Uttarakhand, various teams including NDRF (National Disaster Response Force), SDRF (State Disaster Response Force), DDRF (District Disaster Response Force), Yatra Management Force, and Police personnel will be deployed at designated locations. They will assist in managing the influx of tourists from Mussoorie and Haridwar-Rishikesh during weekends, ensuring their safe passage. To enhance communication and safety, a public address system will be used to provide information about any potential situations along the entire pedestrian route. Passengers will receive updates on weather conditions and walking routes through loudspeakers at various stops. These measures aim to facilitate a secure and well-informed journey for the visitors.

Machines will be deployed on highways and link roads

During the monsoon season, machinery will be strategically deployed along the Rishikesh-Badrinath and Rudraprayag-Gaurikund Highways at locations such as Sirohbagad, Narkota, Bhatwadisain, Basanwada, Semi-Bhansari, Narayankoti, Khat village, and Chandika Dhar. Additionally, machines will be stationed every 10 kilometers along the connecting motor routes to the highway. This proactive measure ensures that any potential situations can be promptly addressed and managed effectively. These actions aim to enhance the safety and convenience of travelers by ensuring that road-related challenges are mitigated efficiently.

During the monsoon season, passengers will receive weather updates and information about the conditions through loudspeakers along the footpath. In the event of heavy rainfall and road blockages, passengers will not be allowed to proceed from Sonprayag to Kedarnath. To prioritize safety, only a maximum of six thousand passengers will be transported daily during the rainy season. These measures aim to keep travelers informed, prevent any potential risks, and ensure a secure and manageable pilgrimage experience to Kedarnath. – Mayur Dixit, District Magistrate Rudraprayag
