The Transport Department has issued a list of Do’s and Don’ts to ensure the safety of pilgrims during the Chardham Yatra. One of the rules mentioned in the list is that vehicles with a wheelbase of more than 4225 mm and a width of more than 250 cm will not be allowed to travel. The vehicle operators must follow this rule strictly to ensure the safety of the passengers. This measure has been taken to ensure that only vehicles that are suitable for the narrow and steep roads of the Chardham Yatra are allowed to travel, reducing the risk of accidents and traffic congestion.

According to RTO (Enforcement) Shailesh Tiwari, the safety of the pilgrims during the Chardham Yatra is being given top priority. To ensure this, all the aspects related to the pilgrimage are being closely monitored. What should the drivers of vehicles going on Chardham Yatra do?

  1. To ensure the safety of pilgrims during the Chardham Yatra, it is mandatory for buses and taxis to obtain a green card, indicating that the vehicle has met necessary safety standards.
  2. Vehicles with wheelbases exceeding 4225 mm and widths exceeding 250 cm are prohibited on the Chardham Yatra route, to ensure safer travel.
  3. Only skilled and experienced drivers are allowed to operate the vehicles during the Chardham Yatra, to ensure greater safety.
  4. All vehicles must carry a first aid box, fire fighting equipment, wooden block, and rope, as mandated for any emergency situations.
  5. Before embarking on the journey, it is mandatory to conduct thorough checks of the brakes, gear, tires, and steering of the vehicles.
  6. On mountain roads, drivers must blow their horns while taking turns, for added safety.
  7. The vehicles must be parked in safe places and the handbrakes should be applied to ensure they don’t move.
  8. In case of adverse weather conditions or landslides in mountainous areas, strict adherence to district administration guidelines is necessary.
  9. All relevant information needs to be provided at the Yatra Checkpost both while starting and returning from the journey, to maintain accurate records.
  10. Vehicles must carry dustbins to maintain cleanliness on the Chardham Yatra route.
  11. To prevent driver fatigue, rest breaks are mandatory at various intervals during the journey.

  2. Inflammable substances such as petrol, diesel, and gas cylinders should not be kept in vehicles.
  3. Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs is strictly prohibited.
  4. Littering on the travel routes should be avoided.
  5. Smoking while driving is prohibited.
  6. Use of a tape recorder, CD player, or radio while traveling is not allowed.
  7. Mobile phones should not be used while driving on the travel route.
  8. Vehicles should not be operated on the travel route at night.
  9. Driving while wearing slippers is not allowed.
  10. The driver’s compartment should not have unnecessary items like water bottles.
  11. Drivers should avoid unnecessary conversations during the journey.
  12. Worn tires should not be used in the vehicle.
  13. Overtaking on mountain roads should only be done when there is enough space.
  14. The journey should be completed within the stipulated time period and drivers should not hurry.
