Auli and Badrinath Dham blanketed in snow

A yellow weather alert caused changes in the weather in Uttarakhand on Friday, particularly in the hilly regions. The district of Chamoli experienced weather changes in the afternoon, with snowfall reported in other high-altitude areas such as Auli, Badrinath, Hemkund Sahib, Ghangaria, Valley of Flowers, and Gorson. Meanwhile, low-lying areas saw intermittent rain. The rain and snowfall process started up again as the evening approached.

Tourism-related business owners in Auli are thrilled with the weekend snowfall. They anticipate a good number of tourists visiting the area due to the holiday on the second Saturday and Sunday. The snowfall was heavy in places like Auli, while low-lying areas like Joshimath, Gopeshwar, and Chamoli experienced rain.

A national-level skiing competition is scheduled to take place in Auli on February 23rd and the recent snowfall on Thursday and Friday has raised hopes for its success. The competition has been eagerly awaited and the snowfall has further increased excitement for the games.

Although the competition is still some time away, the snowfall is seen as a positive sign of its success. The local players will have an opportunity to prepare for the competition thanks to the intermittent snowfall, and better slopes will be made available for the games.

However, for the next few days, it is important for there to be continuous snowfall to ensure sufficient snow accumulation. This year’s lower-than-usual snowfall had caused uncertainty about the National Winter Games, but the snowfall over the past two days has increased the likelihood of its success.

Vikram Singh, the director of the Meteorological Center and a senior meteorologist, has indicated a possibility of light to moderate rain in certain areas of Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Pithoragarh, Rudraprayag, and Bageshwar. High-altitude areas may see snowfall, and there is a risk of lightning in some places. The weather is expected to clear up from Saturday for the next few days.
