Munsiyari is a small and very beautiful hill station in the state of Uttarakhand. This hill station is mostly covered with snow. Travellers can enjoy pleasant weather at this beautiful tourist destination. Due to the snow-capped mountains, this place is also called "The Mini Kashmir" of Uttarakhand. It is located close to the Tibetan and Nepalese international border. Munsiyari attracts many tourists with its natural beauty.

The name 'Munsiyari' means 'place of snow' in the local language. Situated on the banks of the Goriganga River, it is a fast-growing tourist destination, and mountaineers, glacier enthusiasts, high-altitude trekkers and nature lovers commonly use it as their hub or base camp. Munsiyari also falls on the ancient salt route from Tibet and is at the entrance of the Johor Valley, which extends along the course of the Gori Ganga River to its source at the Milam Glacier. It is mainly inhabited by people from a few different caste groups including the Shouka tribe, Dalits or Scheduled Castes and other common castes including Kshatriyas, and Pandits along with some Sikhs, Christians and Buddhists.

Munsiyari Bazar is a group of revenue villages and is not classified as a town. The market area comprises the villages of Malla Ghorpatta and Bunga, while Naya Basti, Sarmoli, Nana Sem, Jayanti, and Papdi villages form the periphery of the popular area called Munsiyari. The main market area is towards the east of the Himalayan Panchachuli ranges.
The upper part of Munsiyari is called Malla Jauhar, consisting of 14 trans-human alpine villages, which are occupied seasonally from May to the beginning of November.
