Ooty “Queen of Hill Stations”- the capital of the Nilgiris district, is also known as the Urmandal. Eucalyptus means that it has been given the name due to the blue mountains, perhaps due to lush mountains. It is at an altitude of 2240 meters above sea level. History of Ooty


Established in 1848 by the Government Horticulture Oakmandala, architect Professor Graham McGillivor started. In 1840, Tweedale threw the seed for this. Europeans decided to give vegetables every month in a 3-rupee subscription for the European people. A substantial amount of vegetables were produced at that time. Molinuxu, a member of the European Commission, managed the area. For some days the vegetables were provided free of charge, but the scheme could not be implemented. In 1847, many people were also funded. Horticulture was rare in India at that time, and the seeds of this site were found only in the forests of the saplings. So a space was allocated to sell the seeds in the public place. The name of the place is Hebron School. It is located near Raj Bhavan. The state government was asked to pay for the worker's salary. In 1848 Mr. W. Zee. The inhabitants of the village were refurbished, and it took 10 years. He presented a report at the end of 1848 for East India Company, located in London.

Places to Visit in Ooty

Doddabetta peak: It is at an altitude of 2623 meters. It is the highest point of the district, from here you can see the beautiful view of the area around Ooty. It is only 10 kilometers away from Ooty.

Lamb's Rock: It is only 9 kilometers away from Kunur. From here you can see the picturesque views of Coimbatore and tea gardens in the surrounding areas. Every scene here is worth drawing, so take out the hidden photographer inside you and do a lot of photography.

Kodanad View Point: This is about 16 kms from Kotagiri on the eastern end of the Nilgiris mountain range. From here you can see the fascinating view of Maar River and tea gardens. There is also an observation tower, from which you can see the view of the Rangaswamy peak.

Botanical Gardens: - People who are nature lovers, are fond of seeing greenery, and like to see rare ferns and other plants, there is no better place for them than this garden. Government botanical gardens spread over an area of about 22 hectares were built in 1847. There are hundreds of thousands of species of plants and trees in them. Among them, there is also a fossil of a tree, which is believed to be more than 2 million years old. The maintenance of these beautiful gardens is in the hands of the State's Horticulture Department.

Mudumalai Wildlife Sanctuary: It is 67 kilometers away from Ooty. If you wait 1-2 days, you will have a great experience for watching wildlife. There are many trees and animals. Here are rare species. Here elephants, big squirrels, sambhar, cheetahs, barking deer and flying squirrels can be seen only. Variety of birds can also be seen in this sanctuary. These include colorful parrots, black woodpeckers, Garuda etc.

Kotagiri: It is a small village 28 km away east of Ooty, it is the oldest of the 3 hill stations of Nilgiris. The weather here is more pleasant than other mountain sites. There are many tea plantations which are shocking. So do not forget to go to Ooty. Visit to Kotagiri.

Kalhatti Waterfalls: Beautiful Ramnike Kalahatti waterfall at the hill of Kalhauti is about 100 feet high. Which is around 13 kilometers from the city. So if you are going to Ooty, do not forget to see these premises and the picturesque surroundings.

Looking at the waterfalls, you will also find species of wild beings on the Kallhatti-Masanagudi hills, which include panthers, sambhar and wild buffaloes.

Mukruri: It is about 36 kilometers away from Ooty and from here you can see the Ramakrishna Mukturthi peak

Sims Park: The Park is spread over more than 12 hectares in Upper Coonoor and it is believed that there are more than 1,000 species of plants in this park, including many pines, ferns and shrubs.

How to Reach Ooty

How to reach Ooty by Air: Broadly, 85 km away, Coimbatore Airport is the nearest airport to Ooty, which connects this hill station through a wide system of the remaining flights of the country. Bearer like Air India, Indigo and SpiceJet have normal flights from New Delhi, Mumbai, Kozhikode, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Ahmedabad. Demographics of Ooty

According to the 2011 Indian Census, 88,430 people live here. Of these, 43,082 men were 45,348 women. The average literacy rate of the state is 90.07%, whereas the literacy rate of males is 94.53% and female literacy is 85.86%. It is more than 80.09% of the state's average literacy rate. The sex ratio for children under the age of six is 987 women per 1000 men. This is higher than the Tamil Nadu average of 943. According to the census of 2011, there is a large number of Hindus. Hindus account for 64.36% of the total population, followed by Christians 21.25% Muslims 13.37%.


Best Time to Visit Ooty

April to June and September to November are the best time to visit Ooty. Maximum temperature rises up to 25 degrees Celsius in summer, and minimum 10 degree Celsius. Further, maximum temperature falls to 21 degrees Celsius in winter, minimum 5 degrees Celsius.
