Diwali is a widely celebrated festival amongst Hindu religion. The festival in itself has a strong significance and history behind it. When Lord Shri Ram with his brother Lord Shri Laxman and Goddess SIta came back from forest (vanvas) after 14 years of spending his life in forests and defeating King of Lanka, Ravana, the people of Ayodhya celebrated their happiness in the form of lighting Diyas, distributing sweets to one another. From that point of time this was named to Deepawali (Diwali).

Usually the festival of Diwali falls on the date of Amavasya. On this day the people distribute sweets to one another, celebrate their happiness by firing crackers and moreover lighting their houses with diyas and colorful lights. During noon and evening time people buy flowers, electric equipments and some utensils and new clothes as well as it is believed that if you buy some new stuff at this day for your house then it will prove to be good for them.

After shopping and distributing sweets to one another at night people worship Goddess Laxmi ( Goddess Of Wealth ), Lord Ganesha ( God Of Wisdom ). It is believed that this worship of people that they dedicate to them will end all their sorrows and their life will be fulfilled with happiness. There is no doubt that these days festival of Diwali is in crazy demand amongst youths as they like to fire crackers at night with their friends.

Well above all this it must be noted here that Diwali is not just a one day festival. The festival of Diwali is surrounded by three more festivals at the same time. Before Diwali festival, Dhanteras is the festival that is worshipped after which Diwali festival comes and after Diwali, Govardhan Puja and then at last Bhai Dooj. Each one of them is worshipped in their own manner and each of them has their own significance and meanings and why these festivals are celebrated in and around Diwali.
