Sikandar Lodhi controlled the country from here and Agra assumed the importance of the second capital. He died in 1517 and his son Ibrahim Lodi remained in power for nine years and many palaces, wells and a mosque were constructed by him in the fort, eventually defeating in the Battle of Panipat in 1526.

History of Agra

Agra's history is a very rich background, which is completely clear from various historical monuments around and around the city. The initial reference for Agra city comes from the age of epic, when Mahabharata Agra was called "Agawarana". Agra is also called "Arya Grama", which means residence of Aryans. It is generally accepted that Agra was an ancient city from the time of Mahabharata and yet the Muslim ruler Sultan Sikandar Lodhi of Delhi Sultanate established Agra in 1504.After Sultan's death, the city went to his son Sultan Ibrahim Lodi. He ruled Agra with his sultanate until he fell to Mughal Badshah Babar in the first battle of Lenniput in 1526.

Since Akbarabad was one of the most important cities of India under the Mughals, so many building activities were seen in it. Babar, the founder of the Mughal dynasty, named it the first formal Persian garden on the banks of river Yamuna. The garden is called an Aram tiger or a relaxing garden. His grandson Akbar the Great raised the vast edge of the great Red Fort, besides learning about Agra, creating a center for arts, commerce and religion.

Akbar also built a new city on the outskirts of Akbarabad called Fatehpur Sikri. This city was built in the form of a Mughal military camp in the stone.His son, Jahangir, loved the flora and fauna and kept many gardens inside the Red Fort or 'Laal Kila'. Shahjahan, known for his keen interest in architecture, gave Akbarabad the most valuable monument, Taj Mahal. Built in the romantic memory of his wife Mumtaz Mahal, the mausoleum was completed in 1653.

Fatehpur Sikri According to ancient historians, Akbar was very interested in making Fatehpur Sikri and he has decorated many places in the city with his favorite artifacts. Most of the buildings of Fatehpur Sikri were constructed with the Red stones. Even in the Shahi Mahal, made by Akbar, there are many artworks. He has incorporated all the artifacts and cultures of Arabian, Persian and Asian artisans in his palace. Jama masjid Jama Masjid is constructed the Red stones and Sangmarmar stone. After seeing the Taj Mahal this is the second best place to visit. Daughter of Shahjahan named Jahan-aara did the good work in praise of God. Jahan-aara did not get married and build the Jama-Masjid by the property in her share. It is believed, that until the prayer is continues in masque, till then Jahan-aara will be virtues.
